திருக்குறள்

இரவுள்ள உள்ளம் உருகும் கரவுள்ள
உள்ளதூஉம் இன்றிக் கெடும்.

பொருள்: இரத்தலின் கொடுமையை நினைத்தால் உள்ளம் கரைந்து உருகும், உள்ளதை ஒழிக்கும் கொடுமையை நினைத்தால் உருகுமளவும் இல்லாமல் அழியும்.

The heart at thought of beggars melts;
It dies at repulsing insults.

English Meaning: To think of (the evil of) begging is enough to melt one's heart; but to think of refusal is enough to break it.
