அறனழீஇ அல்லவை செய்தலின் தீதே
புறனழீஇப் பொய்த்து நகை

பொருள்: அறத்தை அழித்துப் பேசி அறமல்லாதவைகளைச் செய்வதை விட, ஒருவன் இல்லாதவிடத்தில் அவனைப் பழித்துப் பேசி நேரில் பொய்யாக முகமலர்ந்து பேசுதல் தீமையாகும்.

Who bite behind, and before smile
Are worse than open traitors vile.

English Meaning: To smile deceitfully (in another's presence) after having reviled him to his destruction (behind his back) is a greater evil than the commission of (every other) sin and the destruction of (every) virtue.
