குறள் தேனீ

தக்காங்கு நாடித் தலைச்செல்லா வண்ணத்தால்
ஒத்தாங்கு ஒறுப்பது வேந்து.

பொருள்: செய்த குற்றத்தை தக்கவாறு ஆராய்ந்து மீண்டும் அக் குற்றம் செய்யாத படி குற்றத்திற்குப் பொருந்துமாறு தண்டிப்பவனே அரசன் ஆவான்.

A king enquires and gives sentence
Just to prevent future offence.

English Meaning: He is a king who having equitably examined (any injustice which has been brought to his notice), suitably punishes it, so that it may not be again committed.
