திருக்குறள்

செயற்பாலது ஓரும் அறனே: ஒருவற்கு
உயற்பால தோரும் பழி.

பொருள்: ஒருவன் வாழ்நாளில் முயற்சி மேற்கொண்டு செய்யத் தக்கது அறமே, செய்யாமல் காத்துக் கொள்ளத் தக்கது பழியே.

Worthy act is virtue done
Vice is what we ought to shun. 

English Meaning: Virtue is doing what is right and morally good, while vice is engaging in actions that should be avoided because they are wrong or harmful. Thiruvalluvar teaches that understanding and practicing this distinction is the essence of righteous living.
