திருக்குறள்

ஏவவும் செய்கலான் தான்தேறான் அவ்வுயிர்
போஒம் அளவுமோர் நோய்.

பொருள்: தனக்கு நன்மையானவற்றை பிறர் ஏவினாலும் செய்யாதவனாய், தானாகவும் உணர்ந்து தெளியாதவனாய் உள்ளவனுடைய உயிர் போகுமளவும் ஒரு நோயாகும்.

He listens not nor himself knows
Plague is his life until it goes.

English Meaning: The fool will not perform (his duties) even when advised nor ascertain them himself; such a soul is a burden (to the earth) till it departs (from the body).
